Filled with excitement and nostalgia, Kay and Jim Mobbs were alongside their loved ones, as they recently marked this moment by uncorking a timeless treasure, their very first wine, a Pinot Noir Chardonnay dating back to 1993. As they embraced the moment, savouring every delicate sip, their joy was undeniable. Thirty years after its creation, this aged sparkling proved to be a delight, a testament to their unwavering dedication and expertise.
Despite being stored for three decades, its integrity and enchanting bubbles remained intact. Full of history and layers of flavour, reminding us of the journey that led to this extraordinary milestone. For Bago, this sparkling represents a symbol of the legacy that has been built, a legacy that we continue to carry forward with pride.

A journey like this started long before its 30-year celebration. It began in 1985 with the planting of Chardonnay grapes, followed by Pinot Noir in 1986. The next crucial step was the creation of the base wine in 1993, crafted by the highly respected winemaker Drew Noon who is now based in South Australia. Then the wine undertook a transformative process at Petaluma in South Australia, undergoing secondary bottle fermentation (making the bubbles) and resting on lees for two years added depth and complexity to its character.
It was on January 27th, 1996, during our opening day, when we unveiled this sparkling gem, as it joined a selection of other wines, including the 1994 Chambourcin, 1994 Chardonnay, and a fortified wine we named Kerrawong Port. Together, these offerings showcased the depth of our winemaking from the very beginning.
Today, as we toast to those early beginnings and the thirty years that have followed, we cherish our legacy that we have built.
