Bago’s 2025 Seasonal Maze - Surfing Rainbows

Explore the Surfing Rainbows

As the summer season unfolds, Bago is excited to announce the soon to be, grand opening of our 7th annual field maze! This year’s theme, “Surfing Rainbows,” is a fusion of ideas that our talented Landscape Architect, Ian Mobbs, has been dreaming up for a few years. Inspired by the stunning natural landscapes that surround us and the close proximity of world-class surfing beaches, Ian wanted to create a maze that celebrates both the surf and the rainbow in one design.

Initially, his vision included a wave shape integrated into the field, and worked with Aaron from our Cellar Door, a dedicated surfer to help source vintage surfboards to hide throughout the maze. But as the design process progressed, it became clear that creating a wave pattern in a vast sorghum field would be a challenge. With the sorghum growing rapidly, Ian knew he needed to pivot to another idea from his sketchbook, rainbows. Interestingly, this concept was sparked by none other than Ian’s 10 year old daughter, who has an eye for imaginative ideas.

Having already received the surfboards from Aaron’s friend, Chad at Surfboard Broker Australia, Ian merged these themes to create “Surfing Rainbows.” The resulting pattern is a playful combination of rainbows colliding in a dance that reveals surfboard shapes within the overlapping arcs. The maze was easy to set out and completed in under a day, but don’t let its creation fool you, the network of paths is both complex and thrilling, ready to challenge even the most confident little surfers.

This year’s adventure invites you to seek out the hidden surfboards, each watched over by some unexpected characters. So, take a deep breath and embrace the journey! The “Surfing Rainbows” field maze will be open from the start of the school holidays through to the end of January. Entry is included with a standard maze admission ticket, so gather your friends and family and get ready for an exhilarating ride!

Open Until Friday, 31st January 2025.
