On Sunday 11th February the Bago Grape Stomp will be held for the 23rd time. Since inception in 1999, the stomp has been held in February to mark the occasion of our annual grape harvest.
Each year visitors have the opportunity to become grape stomp champions and be commemorated with their name on the trophy displayed in the Cellar Door.
The stomp is contested by teams consisting of two people, stomping 10 kilos of grapes (red of course) for 60 seconds and then granted a further 30 seconds to “Squeeze” any remaining juice.
Last year we witnessed the record set in 2012 of 7.1 litres of grape juice beaten by the Port Macquarie pair Kim Brenton and Maree Wilson with a total of 7.2litres.
To compete in the stomp, visitors are requested to register for the event with nominations closing just after midday. A draw will be held and the successful teams and their heat number will be announced shortly thereafter. A registration table adjacent to the Cellar Door will be set up for nominations. It is anticipated that a minimum of three heats consisting of four teams will take place. (Stomp starts at NOON)
